Upgrade To W 10 From W 8 NOT W 8.1
I possess a silly problem. I run W 8 in this little desktop computer but haven't ever been able to upgrade to W 8.1 as I haven't ever been able to open up Windows Store, despite multiple solutions none that have worked. The only solution of reinstalling W 8 has never appealed! I am very pleased with W 8 but want W 10. With the free upgrade used up I am being exhorted to upgrade by Microsoft. Can I simply upgrade from W 8 or must it be from W 8.1? I have upgraded my laptop from W 7 but experienced dreadful problems e.g windows activation failing and never being sorted, although touch wood it's ok now. Also Microsoft warn me dire consequences of remaining with W 8, are these valid or possibly this project fear?!

Since you might be already having difficulty that are making you not be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1, it's unlikely that the upgrade to Windows 10 will succeed. But you can try. Download the matching ISO register for the Windows 10 language and edition that your Windows 8 you might have installed installed now. English (International) or English (United Kingdom) include the language that match English (UK) if that's what your Windows 8 is. You probably don't have a very Single Language edition or K or KN - but when you do, you might have to match that also. Otherwise it's just Windows 10 you need.
Download ISO from either:
Save the ISO file on your desktop. RIght visit it, mount it. You will get a virtual DVD drive that appears with it's own drive letter. Run setup.exe from the virtual drive that appears.
If the upgrade fails, you will need to do a clean install:

Yeah - good point but no harm in while using the upgrade first because you say - worst of all is a bit of their time lost - I have found even borked windows 8 installs apparently upgrade ok superior to a borked windows 7 install.
Thanks greatly for your help. I will try an upgrade...........fingers crossed. much appreciated. I will inform you about how it goes!
If you've issues with things such as the Microsoft store after upgrading to Windows 10, you may want to try setting up a new local user account, affect the account type to administrator and find out if you could have problems with a brand new user account.
I did just as Navy LCDR suggested.
A sincere thank you on your help. I have followed your advice and thus far the upgrade worked well and I have W10 and also the Windows Store. I did just as Navy LCDR suggested. My only issue was with my Nvidia Drivers which a Windows Update has solved. I have my fingers crossed as I experienced similar success with my Alienware laptop only to realize that after a few weeks Windows 10 was suddenly not activated.
Download iso came from here, double click it, run setup.exe, select to help keep all files.
