How To Install Windows 10 On VirtualBox

First download windows 10 Technical Preview, if you're not sure how you can do that follow my previous article on How to download Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO.

Now which you have the ISO image we could install it by 50 % ways,



Option 1: You can buy some new existing Windows 8 Operating system and land for the Windows 10 Technical Preview, but this may not be recommended because this is just a technical preview and you're just about to explore the modern features. Also rolling back your Windows 10 will also be a tedious job to accomplish.

Option 2: You can setup an isolated sandbox environment using Oracle VirtualBox that will not impact your existing windows installation.

In this short article we are just gonna focus on Option 2, install and setup Windows 10 on Oracle VirtualBox. So why don't we go ahead and get rolling.

Before you do as instructed make sure you possess the following along,



- Windows 10 Technical preview ISO image

- Oracle VirtualBox to operate Windows 10

- Virtual Clone Drive to mount the ISO

Note: If you've VirtualBox version 4.3.16 or less you could possibly(I am not saying you are going to) face some issues so it's better to download and Install version VirtualBox 4.3.18 given it explicitly states within the change log there are some tweaks which are added for Windows 10.

Steps to Install Windows 10 on VirtualBox



First install Virtual Clone Drive and Oracle VirtualBox in your metabolism and then adhere to the below steps:

Right-click about the Windows 10 Technical preview ISO file and select the alternative, Open with -> Mount Files with Virtual Clone Drive (or) right select the Virtual Clone Drive icon as part of your Task-bar and find the Drive you could have and click Mount… option.

Now find the ISO file, it must be mounted and you need to see the AutoPlay option. Just close the AutoPlay option since we're also going to put in it in your VirtualBox only.

Now open Oracle VirtualBox, check out Machine Menu and then click New or utilize shortcut CTRL + N to get the Create Virtual Machine Dialog.

In the Name and Operating System section enter in the Name as Windows 10 Test Machine and pick the version as Windows 8.1 (64 bit) as shown inside the above screenshot and click on Next.

Leave the Dynamically allocated option as it is and then click Next.

You should now note that your VM ready, click for the Windows 10 Test Machine and select the Start arrow button.

If the thing is that “Fatal: No bootable medium found! System halted.” message as shown below it means that your ISO drive isn't properly selected. Press the shortcut key Windows + E to produce My Computer to see which drive holds your ISO image that you just mounted using Virtual Clone Drive. Now click about the Devices Menu and pick the Drive which includes the ISO file, in my case it's Host Drive ‘G:’.

Next Go to the Machine menu and click on Reset button.



In the next Virtual Box Question dialog again press Reset button.

You should be able to notice that the Windows 10 Installation setup started. Pick the preferred language and click on Next.

In your next screen click within the Install now button.



You is going to be presented with all the License Terms simply select the “I accept the license terms” check-box and click on Next.

For the the kind of Installation do you need? question select Custom: Install Windows Only (advanced) option as show below:

Next you are going to see the disk space that you've got earlier allocated before you decide to began setting up Windows 10. You don’t have to complete anything here, click on Next.

You should now identify that your Windows 10 installation has begun.



Note: It may take quite some time to move out from the below Windows 10 Getting Ready message, so please be patient.

The virtual machine is going to be restarted automatically then you should be able to view the below Setup screen. Click for the Use express settings button.

You are going to be asked to register to your Microsoft Live account, give you the id and password that you simply used to sign up for the Windows Insider Program. Click Next.

You will likely be asked to verify your bank account as part of preventative measure, type in the correct email and click on Next.

You will get a code inside alternate email id that you've correctly provided, enter that code as shown from the below screenshot and click on Next.
