The DirectX included in Windows 10 is suitable for DirectX 9, 10 and 11.

While DX12 is backwards suitable for DX9, if software references the DX9 library and never the DX10 or greater library, DX9 is required to become installed. @Ramhound I'm conscious of that runtime installer you associated with, but I hear conflicting stories around the compatibility with Windows 10. Some say it does not install, others say it will install but does not work properly and again others say it lets you do work.
